Environmental Commitment

At ECA, we strive to be environmentally responsible. With more than 50 years in business, the company has long demonstrated a commitment to preserving the environment. And recently, we have redoubled our efforts to protect the environment through comprehensive programs that reach to all areas of our business. Our unique commitment to sustainable industry practice includes:

Green Completions

ECA meets and exceeds the EPA’s 2015 Green Completion standards and further reduces the possible environmental impacts of our completions by recycling and reusing nearly all of our produced and flowback water from Marcellus operations. Additionally, we blanket our locations with impermeable lining to protect soil from possible spills or leaks. We also lay waterline infrastructure to reduce the heavy truck traffic that frequently supports well completions. This innovative water transportation system has reduced anticipated truck traffic in Greene County, Pennsylvania alone by more than 10,000 loads per year. Our well casings have multiple layers of steel and cement to isolate our operations from water supplies and surrounding geology and in 2012, we became one of the first operators to deploy natural gas-powered hydraulic fracturing equipment and drilling rigs in our operations.

Minimum Impact

ECA employs a minimum impact philosophy when it comes to land use for our projects and always works to disturb the smallest possible surface land footprint. One way we do this is by utilizing horizontal drilling to safely access oil and gas formations that are not directly below the well location or formations in sensitive areas that should be protected. This means, for every acre of surface disturbance, ECA is typically able to access and extract natural gas from up to 50 acres of Marcellus reservoir. And, whenever possible we reuse existing well location sites and rights of way to limit the amount of new lands our operations impact.

Relying on the Experts

ECA employs a team of environmental compliance and engineering personnel with particular expertise in minimizing the environmental impacts of our operations. This team focuses solely on the continual improvement of our operational practices to maximize safety for our employees and communities, while minimizing impacts to the environment to ultimately better support the company’s goal of intentional environmental stewardship.

Pioneering Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Vehicles

ECA has been on the forefront of testing CNG fleet vehicles and supporting local efforts for CNG filling stations throughout the areas where we operate.

ECA is committed to quickly testing and adapting new technology to make our operations cleaner, greener, and more sustainable. We demand high standards for ourselves, contractors and our partners, as we create vital American energy in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
